There really isn’t anyplace where encouraging creativity doesn’t improve things. People get bored in sterile environments and do not do well with learning when it only includes rote memorization and doesn’t encourage creativity. When creativity is encouraged, amazing things happen in learning environments. Let’s look at all the benefits of encouraging creativity in school.
* Makes Learning Fun – Learning about math by cooking or creating something is going to make it come alive more than just memorization and rote learning. When you match things to the real world, it just helps.
* Gives Freedom of Expression – Letting learners express themselves in their own way about all topics is very helpful for remembering and learning new concepts. When you are free to express yourself in your clothing, your art, your words and the way that you do things, you’re going to learn things in a more unforgettable way.
* Improves Emotional Development – Being unafraid to ask questions will help a child’s emotional development progress. Building a creative learning environment requires a more open environment than one where everyone is in a line learning by memorization and other techniques that tend not to answer the question of “why.”
* Stimulates Imaginative Thinking – Asking “dumb” questions, coming up with silly ideas, brainstorming, and thinking outside the box are all part of encouraging creativity in school. When a kid can think more imaginatively, they’re likely to come up with more ideas and solutions than if they are too afraid to think for themselves.
* Reduces Stress and Anxiety – The fact is, kids who are free to be who they are in a learning environment have less stress and anxiety. When anyone is calmer and has less anxiety, they can learn more and learn more easily. Not to mention that lowering the stress and anxiety in the classroom will reduce violent and aggressive behavior too.
* Increases Problem-Solving Skills – Being free to look at a problem more creatively can lead to a lot more problems being solved. Innovative thinking is naturally creative thinking, and it all starts with giving children the freedom to do it.
* Improves Attention Span – A creative educational environment will encourage breaks, movement, and even talking (a lot). Expending that energy is going to give each child a larger ability to pay attention to what is happening right now.
* Expands Communication Skills – Feeling confident enough to state your opinion and ideas can be hard for a child. However, in creative environments that focus on exercises to come at problems from new ways and does not focus on “wrong” and “right” can help everyone communicate better.
If you really want to create a dynamic learning environment in your school, find ways to encourage more creativity. Give students time to be more creative and teach them to unleash their creativity by adding creativity-focused exercises and tools that help. For example, let them have quiet time and loud time, and running around time too. The more freedom kids have, the more creative they’ll be.
